Jade Roller & Gua Sha Tool
Jade rollers are great for at home facial massages. They can be cooling if you leave them in the fridge overnight. I have used it to calm my tense face muscles. It may also calm skin inflammation and get rid of under-eye puffiness.
Shiatsu Neck and Back Massager
I am in love with this shiatsu neck and back massager. I actually did not expect it to be as amazing as it is. Unfortunately, I suffer from a lot of aches (muscle knots) and pains and this machine puts it at ease, but you do not have to be in pain to enjoy this device. It is great to use post workout, on your at home spa day, or just to unwind. I honestly wish I had added one of these to my self-care routine sooner.
Sonic Face Massager
The sonic face massager is used for the same purposes as the jade roller, but it is great for when you want to go the extra mile. The sonic face massager vibrates and it is water resistant. I use this whenever my jaw is tense.
Cerave Cleanser
Cerave cleansers have a range of formulas for dry, combination, oily, and normal skin. Some of their formulas are specifically for people with acne prone skin. They come in both bar and liquid form. All of the formulas are non-comedogenic and fragrance free. As I mentioned in my article on the best essential oils for studying, non-comedogenic products do not clog pores. Fragrance free formulas are less likely to irritate skin.
Foot Soak Massager
I actually own an older model of this foot soak massager, and this unit has lasted me over 15 years so far. If you are on your feet a lot, this is a must have. It is great for at home pedicures or just relaxing.
Foam Roller
Using foam rollers can promote good circulation. It may also minimize the chance of getting injured from physical activity. Some people may experience less soreness following a workout if they incorporate foam rollers into their routine. It may increase your flexibility and improve your range of motion. This is another great thing that has helped me with my muscle knots.
Yoga Strap
A yoga strap is another great tool to add to your stretching routine. It may improve your flexibility and range of motion. It may also reduce chances of sustaining an injury during physical activity.
WaterPik
I actually mentioned the WaterPik in my last self-care article. Oral hygiene is an extremely important part of self-care. The WaterPik promotes great oral hygiene and it aids in keeping your gums healthy.
Adult Puzzle Book | Adult Coloring Book
Adult puzzle books and adult coloring books may be great for stress relief. I found that completing puzzles or coloring pages definitely helped me stay calm, especially when I was nearing a difficult exam. I even found an anatomy coloring book that helped me study without stressing out.
Lego Sets
Similarly to activity books, lego sets may be a great way to manage your stress and get into a relaxed state. There is a large variety of lego sets. You can get classic sets, themed sets of legos (Star Wars, Harry Potter, Batman, and more!), robotics sets, or sets based on famous architecture.
Neutrogena Hydroboost
Neutrogena Hydroboost is best used on damp skin. It is hyaluronic acid (a humectant) based moisturizing line. These products are extremely hydrating because hyaluronic acid molecules are able to hold about 1000x their weight in water. It may improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles . This line will work best if you are in a humid or rainy environment.
Neutrogena Wet Skin
Protecting your skin from harmful sun damage is an important part of self-care. Neutrogena Wet Skin sunscreen has been my sunscreen of choice for a few years. It aids in protecting your skin from broad spectrum ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. Without protection these rays are more likely to lead to sun damage (sunburn, sun spots, worsened appearance of hyper-pigmentation; ect), skin cancer, and/or premature wrinkling. Neutrogena Wet Skin has been my sunscreen of choice, because it does not leave a white film on my skin.

I’ve been dealing with sport’s related musculoskeletal stress for a while. It’s been bearable but as of recent I’ve had to see a physical therapist to ensure that my stressors won’t aggravate me while I endure NAVY boot camp. Reading your article has really changed my outlook on self care & muscle recovery, I purchased the shiatsu neck and back massager & immediately I felt a difference. After my hard workouts and vigorous runs I would plug in my Shiatsu and get to work, the technology loaded in it is impeccable & has alleviated a lot of the knots on my back along with dynamic stretching and rest of course. Cheers to a great article
Thank You!
I am happy that it worked for you! 🙂
